The Lost White Tribes of Australia
The Lost White Tribes of Australia is a four-part history series by
Australian author Henry Van Zanden. It explores controversial theories
that Dutch sailors were marooned on the continent and intermarried with
Indigenous Australians long before British colonization. The books aim to
“fill the yawning gap in Australia’s history” by documenting early Dutch
shipwrecks and exploring historical mysteries Van Zanden believes were
covered up or erased.
The investigation covers multiple regions and themes across its released
installments:
Part One: 1656 the First Settlement of Australia explores
early Dutch contacts and shipwrecks, specifically the theory of a secret
settlement of Dutch-descended people that could have threatened the
United Kingdom’s sovereignty claims.
Part Two: Individuals of an Alien White Race investigates mysterious
tribes and anomalous early rock art descriptions (such as those by
explorer George Grey) that suggest non-Indigenous features. It examines
accounts of people with blue eyes, blonde hair, or lighter skin in
Western Australia.
Part Three: 1766 Australia’s First Pandemic focuses on Victoria and
New South Wales, linking the origins of a devastating smallpox outbreak
to Dutch ships. Van Zanden investigates stone houses and intricate canal
networks in Victoria, theorising they were influenced by Dutch shipwreck
survivors.
